Information about the health care in Czech Republic

September - May 2019

Following my last information about salaries of doctors I am adding, that the salary increase for 2019 was considerably smaller than promised. Young doctors basic salary increased by 7 %. More experienced doctors received only a 2% increase of basic salary (such an increase does not even keeping up with inflation). Despite this fact, the greater half of the senior doctors achieved a further 5% variable wage components increase at the local level. Negotiations about salary increases in 2020 are already underway. One of the hospital associations seems to support us in our demand to increase salaries in 2020 by 10%. Regarding this requirement, there will be tough negotiations with the Minister of Health who said at a press conference, that doctors' salaries in Czech Republic are already at EU level. This information very outraged and insulted our membership base. Minister's data are false. Moreover, the situation is distorted by the high amount of overtime work that often reaches 100-150 hours instead of 32 hours per month. Without a clear solution we consider this situation as unsustainable not only in terms of applicable legislation, but also in terms of the physical commitment of doctors. In case of disagreement with the Minister of health, which we expect, we will initiate negotiations with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic.
